LEx Scotland was appointed to develop and deliver a bespoke programme over three sessions in the summer of 2023 to support 4th-year Contemporary Performance students at the The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. After the challenges of remote study in 2020, they wanted to develop inclusive and supportive practices to work together in person. The students’ lived experience was centred and supported during the workshops, where we established group agreements and worked on meeting needs and respecting boundaries. We also looked at methods of resolving conflict that the group could use in collaborative ways in their work together. We had a lot of fun doing creative, practical exercises on these themes!
A highlight of our programme was our partnership with Shona Powell McKay, a student who crafted an interactive performance for their final degree show titled “These Pieces of Us: A work that creates space for audience members to have conversations about gender identity, sex identity and care culture together in an anti-harm and relaxed environment”. We trained two students on inclusive facilitation techniques and then worked with them to support audience members to take part in discussions as part of the performance.
“Maddi facilitated accessibly and engagingly. As a neurodiverse person, I felt supported and understood in my learning. A great session, I recommend!”
